Upcoming Events: Symposiums on 40 years of Southeast Asian Stories

For those who remember, passed down family stories, or learned about some of the most forgotten shared histories of our time; 1975 was the most significant year for the people of Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia. 2015 marks 40 years of the beginning of the dispersal of thousands who sought refuge from a post-war Southeast Asia. There are two upcoming symposiums hosting spaces to reflect, discuss and to commemorate the journeys, experiences, stories and livelihoods of our Southeast Asian communities in America.  Little Laos on the Prairie will be present at both events. We hope you will join us. Celebrating with a Lao Call to Action this Veteran's Day

This morning, it was very cold. The temperature was at about 22 degree F. Five Lao veterans attended the Veterans Day at the Vietnam Memorial in front of the State Capitol. I was among the attendees. I had a chance to talk about the war in Laos by expressing my thanks and I urged my fellow Brothers in Arms to do whatever they can so we will be treated as U.S. veterans. -Khao Insixiengmay While there’s much to celebrate this year in veterans affairs for the Southeast Asian community, particularly the Hmong and Lao in Minnesota, there’s much more we as Southeast Asian communities can do to work together better. The Hmong and Lao helped drive the state legislature to pass the MN Hmong-Lao Veterans Memorial bill in May 2014 (sponsored by Sen. Foung Hawj and Rep. John Lesch). This weekend, to further push for recognition and acknowledgement of Southeast Asians, the Coalition of Southeast Asian Veterans (CoSAV) based in St. Paul, Minnesota; is trying to push for the passage of resolution H.
